Abstract
Massive gastrointestinal hemorrhage from the colonic varices is very rare condition. Colonic varices involving the entire colon diffusely are extremely rare and usually involve segmentally. Its possible causes of this entity include portal
hypertension,
congestive heart failure, and pancreatitis associated with splenic vein thrombosis, etc. it seems that most patients with colonic varices accompany portal hypertension associated with liver cirrhosis.
This case was 64-year-old female patients and she visited our hospital because of hematochezia and dizziness. Radiologic and endoscopic findings showed multiple colonic varices in descending colon, liver cirrhosis, and grade-I esophageal varices.
During
conservative treatment including transfusion, massive gastrointestinal bleeding recurred. Left hemicolectomy and liver biopsy were performed. Pathologic diagnosis was colonic varices and liver cirrhosis.
Authors experienced one case of colonic varices causing massive gastrointestinal hemorrhage in patients of liver cirrhosis, so we report this case with its related references.
